World Health Organization (WHO), Specialized Agency of the United Nations system, is facing the challenge of reconsidering its role in the changing context of global health governance. In our paper, starting from a brief description of WHO features, we make an attempt to assess the management results of this organization and, as a consequence, to understand whether its role is still predominant or if WHO is destined to modify its approach towards health promotion and eradication of diseases. An analysis of the situation and a review of the main literature contributions have been performed in order to propose some useful insights to the practitioners’ and scientific scholars’ discussion about this issue.

Abstract
World Health Organization (WHO), Specialized Agency of the United Nations system, is facing the challenge of reconsidering its role in the changing context of global health governance. In our paper, starting from a brief description of WHO features, we make an attempt to assess the management results of this organization and, as a consequence, to understand whether its role is still predominant or if WHO is destined to modify its approach towards health promotion and eradication of diseases. An analysis of the situation and a review of the main literature contributions have been performed in order to propose some useful insights to the practitioners’ and scientific scholars’ discussion about this issue.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
