This article concentrates on the relationship between companies and their suppliers and places a particular focus on the impact new technologies have had on the ways in which procurement and purchasing processes are handled. Among the numerous technological solutions available within the context of e-procurement, this study will concentrate on buy side solutions known as collaborative portals. This article’s objective is to investigate whether or not the advantages the company expects to gain from implementing such a portal could translate into positive external benefits which not only create value for the company in question but, as a byproduct, for the other players in the portal’s network.
