The purpose of this work is to identify the main design drivers of a web collaborative portal and to verify the relationships between these drivers and the strategic goals of such kind of portals. Through the analysis of an empirical case, three different design drivers have been identified, called width, depth and penetration. Besides, a clear relationship has been found out between strategic goals and the strength of emphasis on the design drivers. From the managerial point of view, this study allows to suggest a roadmap to implement a web collaborative portal. This roadmap consents to the company willing to innovate the way of managing the supplying relationships to follow a rational process, consistent with the strategic goal fixed by the use of the new technology.
