A spin off of a research project of the International Association of Constitutional Law (IACL), this chapter deals with the much discussed topic of constitutionalism in illiberal democracy. The chapter addresses the relationship between constitutionalism and democracy and also poses the question of whether the concept of "illiberal democracy" first coined by Fareed Zakaria is in actual fact a legal and constitutional oxymoron.
