The process of juridical proof typically requires some ostensive act, consisting in the presentation of evidence to prove a claim. Building on previous work on the pragmatics of evidence discourse, this contribution concerns the dynamics of ostensive acts and has the purpose of clarifying how such acts work in the context of legal fact-finding, focusing on the use of indexical words in particular. The work concludes by claiming that ostensive acts are necessary but not sufficient to legal fact-finding, for ostension must be followed by argument.

Abstract
The process of juridical proof typically requires some ostensive act, consisting in the presentation of evidence to prove a claim. Building on previous work on the pragmatics of evidence discourse, this contribution concerns the dynamics of ostensive acts and has the purpose of clarifying how such acts work in the context of legal fact-finding, focusing on the use of indexical words in particular. The work concludes by claiming that ostensive acts are necessary but not sufficient to legal fact-finding, for ostension must be followed by argument.File in questo prodotto:
