In this tribute essay, I trace twin developments in international arbitration over the years: its evolution into a fully mature legal dispute resolution regime and the increasing focus on the professionalism and professional conduct of its participants. These two developments are interrelated, but also I believe at least partially attributable to the existence of the School of International Arbitration (SIA) that Professor Julian Lew founded.

Abstract

In this tribute essay, I trace twin developments in international arbitration over the years: its evolution into a fully mature legal dispute resolution regime and the increasing focus on the professionalism and professional conduct of its participants. These two developments are interrelated, but also I believe at least partially attributable to the existence of the School of International Arbitration (SIA) that Professor Julian Lew founded.
