Sicurezza e diritti nella digital age. La tecnologia: un’arma a doppio taglio nella lotta al terrorismo internazionale

This chapter addresses the challenging relationship between security, rights and technology. On the one hand, it recognizes that technology can be a useful tool to fight threats to public security, such as international terrorism. On the other hand, it takes into consideration the risk that the use of technology has a negative impact on some human rights and personal freedoms, such as free speech, privacy, data protection. The author, in the light of latest technology developments, examines this scenario, trying to sketch some guidelines that could be useful to judges and lawmakers when faced with these tricky issues.
