The chapter focuses on current and future developments of renewable energy policy in Italy. In particular, after analyzing the wider EU policy objectives in the field, it focuses on the Italian legislative and administrative framework for renewables and energy efficiency. In view of the largely decentralized quality of renewables, the role of municipalities and regions is described as well, together with the role of support schemes and the importance of legal certainty and stability for their correct implementation.
