Abstract

This introductory article of FBRs special issue on ‘temporal dimensions’ shares the key concepts and constructs related to the varied conceptions of time, and how activities and individuals relate to time. The ‘quiet perseverance’ of time related concepts in family business studies is noted. The four articles featured in this issue are introduced. These articles illustrate ways to measure the long-term orientation construct, shed light on changes in ambidexterity and proactiveness as the firm ages, and demonstrate the effect on financial performance of continuing past strategies. The challenges and significant opportunities of explicitly incorporating time in family business research are discussed.
