The economic and sociological investigations concerning money, which are included in this volume, are an attempt to reopen the questions on the nature of money and on its role in economic life. In this respect, the relationship with calculation is not at all a marginal aspect, but rather a fundamental dimension. The purpose of this introduction is to show how the problematic nexus between money and calculation questions management, economics and social sciences in a very direct way, to help bring those questions out of the shade, and to address them as the occasion for a renewed relationship with the tradition of social thought and as the opportunity for a new reflection on the life of business and economic systems.
