The theoretical roots of current debates will be highlighted, together with an analysis of existing definitions. Then, the motivations underlying the decision to start a partnership will be presented, as well as the benefits accruing to each sector and the potential obstacles. Finally, a taxonomy of cross-sector partnerships will be proposed.
