This contribution reproduces, with minor modifications, the author’s intervention at the “Meeting of Judges” organised by the Court of Justice in Luxembourg from 8 to 10 March 2026. It examines the role of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union within the Italian legal order, focusing in particular on its growing importance in constitutional adjudication. It reconstructs the gradual shift from the traditional role of the Italian Constitutional Court in enforcing EU law to a more active involvement in the protection of fundamental rights through the Charter. The contribution highlights the interaction between ordinary courts, the Constitutional Court and the Court of Justice, emphasizing judicial dialogue as a key tool for developing common European standards of protection.
