The article summarizes my dissertation focusing on the role social norms can play in regulating the disclosure and transfer of innovative ideas. In particular, I attempt to better understand when and how social norms protect the transfer and use of innovation-related knowledge, with a specific focus on their interplay with strategic explanations for knowledge transfer, their functioning under specific competitive conditions, and the factors behind their existence.
