The article reconstructs the social networks in the Italian city of Ivrea between 16th and 17th century. It compares networks built on marriage alliance with those built upon other, weaker, ties: godparenthood and marriage witnessing. It shows that different people were chose to act in different roles, drawing conclusions with general validity for network analysis with historical data.
