The article focuses on the relationships between public and private bodies in the promotion and protection of agricultural products or foodstuffs of a certain nature, quality and reputation which are essentially or exclusively due to their geographical origin. In particular, it addresses the role of Italian private consortia in the protection of geographical indications (GIs) registered as PDO (Protected Designation of Origin), PGI (Protected Geographical Indications) and TSG (Traditional Specialities Guaranteed) under the EU Regulation n. 1151/2012 on quality schemes for agricultural products and foodstuffs.
