As many sports governing bodies operate with limited resources, using them efficiently and effectively to fulfill the organization’s mission and meet its objectives, becomes a key success criteria for management. We call the process of marshalling resources, formulating goals and objectives and developing coherent strategies and action plans Strategic Management. The purpose of this book is to provide managers in sports governing bodies with an introduction to the strategic management system. This is done by introducing the main areas of strategic management: Situational Analysis, External Analysis, Internal Analysis, Strategic Planning and Implementation. Each component is introduced, relevant analytical methods and techniques are described and some practical implications are discussed. The book is written as an academic essay. This means that the emphasis is on analytical tools and techniques, but that the style is kept “non-academic” and practitioner oriented
