The relation between democracy and public spending is a complex one. This paper provides evidence from developing countries that challenges the simple view that democracy is associated with larger government spending. Moreover, it shows that the composition, in addition to the total size, of government spending is a relevant factor to be taken into account when analyzing the relationship between political variables and public policies outcomes.

Abstract
The relation between democracy and public spending is a complex one. This paper provides evidence from developing countries that challenges the simple view that democracy is associated with larger government spending. Moreover, it shows that the composition, in addition to the total size, of government spending is a relevant factor to be taken into account when analyzing the relationship between political variables and public policies outcomes.File in questo prodotto:
