The aim of this paper is to describe the evolution of AGIP’s investments in the Romanian oil business from 1926 to 1943. The Italian state-owned company entered in Romania purchasing a majority share in Prahova company. This participation was originally purely financial, but after 1928 AGIP pursued a stronger integration of the Romanian activities. This plan was just partly successful, due to the 1930’s international crisis and the Second World War.
