Abstract

A comparison between some characteristics of the Us and Eu capital markets is followed by considerations on the probably suboptimal size of the bilateral financial relationship. Issues and obstacles that hinder the development of this relationship are examined, including the different institutional settings and evolution of financial regulations in the Us and in the Eu. New initiatives in fostering a transatlantic regulatory dialogue are advocated.
