The article exposes the massive transformations undergone by the legislations on citizenship in the most relevant European countries. In particular, the Author focuses on the change of approach that have progressively characterized the citizenship’s issue in the last decades. Immigrants are no more considered as a temporary labour force, on the contrary, they are now perceived as a resource to be integrated. Thus, the article offers a comparison between the most relevant European legislations, aimed also at structuring a proposal of revision of the Italian discipline.
