Assessing the use of performance information by Italian central government managers

Over the last decades reforms have been driven by the idea that public organizations need to measure activities' results in order to enhance efficiency and effectiveness. Among performance management studies it is possible to identify a redirection of attention from the design of performance information systems to the use of performance information and the relative determinants. The paper aims at investigating through a survey how and why managers of Italian central governments use performance information.
