This chapter explores the nature of contemporary sport governance in the Czech Republic through the lens of the social capital concept. Exploring the nature of social networks, trust and norms within the three sports associations governing football, handball and sailing, different forms of social capitals are identified at a meso-, institutional level. Whereas the governance of football is defined as a “politicking zone,” the governance of handball is considered to be a “movement,” and the governance of sailing is described as a “community.” The chapter is based on a multi-sited ethnographic study that uses a combination of techniques, including semi-structured interviews, non-participant observation and a review of available primary and secondary documents.
