Better regulation and administrative simplification have become key issues in the evolution of the modern state. This volume, which is the result of studies carried out by a research team based at the Bocconi University – Italy’s top business school – is just the most recent publication devoted to this topic. As the various contributions point out, a key role has been played by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) especially through its Red Tape Assessment project (RTA) – formerly known as the Red Tape Scoreboard. Not surpisingly, the OECD has just published a report – Cutting Red Tape: Comparing Administrative Burden across Countries, OECD, 2007 – which presents the results of the RTA in relation to the road freight sector.
