In recent years, the higher and higher level of competition peculiar to several industries is leading companies to look for new sources of competitive advantage. To cope with this challenge, manufacturing companies are striving to enrich their product offering with value added services, thus pursuing a servitization strategy. Some of the services that companies can add to their offering rely heavily on superior time-based performances, namely speed and dependability of delivery, which firms can achieve through up-to-date Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs). In fact, such technologies can lead to a better visibility along the pipeline and to more efficient processes, which can have positive effect on the time-based performance of the delivery process. This paper wants to check whether time-based performance improvements rooted in the adoption of ICTs can boost the mechanism of value creation if they are leveraged to support a servitization strategy. This analysis has been carried out through a survey and 180 usable questionnaires have been collected. Data has been analyzed through the structural equation modelling (SEM) approach. Empirical evidence confirms our hypothesis and demonstrates that superior time-based performance can lead to value only if it is embedded into a superior product offering.
