Labour tax reforms: Italy in the European perspective

We set the debate on labour tax reforms in Italy in the European context. After providing data on the evolution of total revenues and labour tax revenues in Italy and comparing them with European trends, we investigate the room available to modify the Italian taxes on labour and the effects related to these changes. We conclude by recasting the Italian labour tax reform debate in the light of the main lessons we can derive from the analysis of the impact of labour tax reforms in European countries over the last two decades.
